The American Association for Retired Persons Foundation provides this program in cooperation with the IRS, to provide volunteer tax preparation assistance for federal, state and Homestead tax returns. It serves moderate – to low-income individuals, with special consideration to those ages 60 and older, at locations throughout the greater Wausau area, during tax season. Please bring to appointment: Social Security card, Last year’s tax return, All 1099 forms, Copy of real estate taxes or signed original rent certificate. This office does not carry a supply of forms, is unable to accept hard copy of documents and unable to accept payments. By appointment only on Wednesdays & Thursdays. Call to schedule an appointment.

Attorneys may provide legal assistance for low-income taxpayers with Federal tax controversies and offers in compromise. The project covers only Federal tax situations. The project does not prepare current tax returns. Eligibilities: People with low assets and incomes at or below 250% of the Federal poverty guidelines.

Eligibilities: Taxpayers with income under $42,000 without business ownership, rental property or capital gains. Intake procedure: Returns prepared on a first come first served basis. Free tax preparation assistance for federal, state, and Homestead tax returns by NTC accounting students and other community volunteers. Free electronic filing offered. Volunteers available Thursday from 12:30-7:30pm, late February – April 15.

The VITA program offers free federal, state and Homestead tax return preparation by IRS certified volunteers. To qualify, taxpayers must have an adjusted gross income of $51,000 or less, not own any rental property, have no capital gains, and not own a business or farm. Free electronic filing is offered. This VITA site operates Tuesdays from 5-8 pm Saturdays from 9am-2pm in February, March and April. (until April 15th). Please call for an appointment.
