GOOD NEWS PROJECT – HEALTH EQUIPMENT LENDING PROGRAM

Good News Project offers a Health Equipment Lending Program to area residents with short-term medical needs. They have items such as wheelchairs, hospital beds/mattresses, walkers, crutches, shower chairs, commodes, etc. to loan, as they are available. They also accept donations of medical equipment in working order. Local people seeking to borrow items are asked to stop by their office from 9am – 5pm, Monday thru Friday, or inquire by calling. A tax deductible donation is requested for use of the items, to cover the costs of program maintenance.

WISCONSIN SCHOOL FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI) is part of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and operates the Wisconsin School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WSBVI), a residential school for K-12 students who are blind and visually impaired. The school, in addition to providing a general education curriculum, offers intensive instruction in skills which minimizes the effects of blindness (e.g. Braille instruction, travel with white cane, use of technology, appropriate social skills which would otherwise be learned incidentally through sight, etc.) The WCBVI, through its Janesville campus and the regional sites, also provides a wide array of statewide services, assessments, summer/weekend programs, resources, and professional opportunities. WCBVI offers summer programs for students ages 8-21, as well as an adult summer program.

WISCONSIN TALKING BOOK AND BRAILLE LIBRARY

The Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library (WTBBL) is part of the Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NSL) network of cooperating libraries. WTBBL provides audio books, playback equipment, and brailled materials free of charge to persons living in Wisconsin, who cannot see regular print or handle print materials. WTBBL patrons receive and return books and equipment, postage-free through the U.S. Postal Service. In addition, WTBBL circulates audio books and brailled materials about Wisconsin or by Wisconsin authors, as well as audio-described videotapes and DVD’s.
